光的强弱直接影响到对印品样张颜色的判断,光的强弱不仅对色彩的明暗有影响,还会改变颜色的相貌。平时我们观察一个受光的圆柱,迎光的一面为明调,背光的面为暗调。明暗的结合部分为是中间调。

先看样张再看印品和先看印品再看样张,其结果会略有不同,分两次看一种色时感觉不一样。这种现象叫做先后颜色对比反应。先看的颜色使该色的色神经纤维兴奋,马上再看别的颜色,其它色神经很快兴奋引起色感,而先看色的色神经处于兴奋后的抑制状态,再兴奋较慢,引起了负色相反应。
